The Windsor Supreme Court Decision Creates New Rules for Same-Sex Couples

In United States v. Windsor, the Supreme Court issued it first substantive decision on the controversial subject of same-sex marriage, striking down the the provisions of the Defense of Marriage Act defining marriage solely as a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.  We discuss the many Federal programs that may be affected by the decision and the important questions left unanswered.  We also offer suggestions on steps that same-sex married couples may want to consider in light of the decision in the Windsor case.
